The Tuya, a tree which resembles the cypress, is found all over Morocco especially along the Mediterranean coast.
Objects made of Tuya traditionally are from the Atlantic coastal region of Essaouira. They are each individually shaped and sculpted by hand. The wood is not highly processed, just coated with varnish. Tuya wood products are known for their unique fragrance, a pleasant scent that naturally emanates from the wood.
